Airpower is an unreleased wireless charging mat developed by Apple Inc.. It was meant to charge up to three devices concurrently. It was originally announced on September 12, 2017. But recently Apple had declared the cancellation of the project due to its inability to meet high standards.
- Dan Riccio, Apple’s Senior VP of Equipment Design said, “ After much effort, we have concluded Airpower will not accomplish our special needs and also we have dropped the undertaking. We say sorry to those clients who were expecting this dispatch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and we are committed to pushing the wireless experiences ahead”.
- Apple had previously ensured some very exciting features for the Airpower charger, including the capability to charge up to three ioS devices at once, especially the Apple watch, Airpod, and iPhone. Along with it, there would be multiple coils that would empower the user to place the gadget anywhere on the pad to charge and a software overlay for iPhone to display its charging percent.
- But infinite reports suggested overheating issues relating to the multi-coil effects that came up during the product’s development. Although, Apple stated that all was well and they have found solutions to the recurring problems, but even after 550 days of the statement, the product never seemed to ship.
- The news came out like a bolt of blue and a serious disappointment to the fans of the product which promised to do something that no other charging mat found in the market could dream of.
