Social media giant Facebook has introduced a new tool to give users more control over what they share to News Feed by managing who can comment on their public posts. The new feature allows users to control their commenting audience for any public post by choosing from a menu of options ranging from anyone who can see the post to only the people and Pages you tag. Ramya Sethuraman, Facebook’s Product Manager, said in a blog that with the help of this tool, one can easily regulate the commenting audience for any amount of time.
- The main objective of News Feeds is to connect you to what matters the most for you, for example, the people in your life, compelling content, and the world around you. The friends you add to your Facebook, the pages you enjoy, and the groups you have connected all can be easily socialized within the News Feed.
- The company said this new tool is the latest example of how Facebook is trying to help one curb and prune the people around someone, by curating the News Feed to best reflect who you are and what preferences you have.
- The Feed Filter Bar offers easier passage to the Most Recent too, making it simpler to switch between an algorithmically ranked Newsfeed and a feed sorted chronologically with the newest post at the foremost. A recently launched “Favorites”, is a new mechanism where one controls and restricts the number of people from watching or commenting on any post or video.
- Ramaya writes in her blog, “To refresh what you want to see and how you share to your News Feed, check out your News Feed preferences and privacy settings in the app and adjust them to your liking. We know that helping you better manage your exposure on Facebook can support wellbeing, so we will continue to invest in ways to give you more control and context.”
